At LCPA, we believe that all students should have the opportunity to pursue a career in performing arts and our full-time extended diploma course is the first step.
The curriculum develops a broad set of skills, knowledge and understanding making demands on the student’s body and brain. We mix this qualification with a focus on training for further education and auditions in musical theatre. Students also have the option to study BTDA vocational graded examinations.
A minimum of five GCSEs (or equivalent) at grades 4 – 9. A Level 2 qualification in a Performing Arts subject will be accepted as an alternative to a GCSE. Students without a GCSE grade 4 – 9 in English or Mathematics will be considered and supported for a re-take.
What will I study?
• Year One Students are required to complete seven assignments. These are all focused on singing, acting, dance and related subjects.
• Year Two Students are required to complete six assignments. Alongside the core subjects, students will develop skills by devising performance work and working together as a theatre company. Students will also learn about the business aspect of performing arts.
How is the course examined?
Students are encouraged to demonstrate knowledge and understanding by practical assessment, no written exams. Students are assessed via portfolio and performance by tutors and moderated by a visiting moderator.
The BTEC National Extended Diploma is the equivalent of 3 A Levels and can lead to further study in theatre studies, drama, dance and performing arts in higher education at degree or HND Level. It can also be used to lead on to a career in the performing arts industry.
