Creative Digital Media Level 3 National Extended Certificate

Entry Qualifications

A minimum of five GCSEs at grade, A*- C or 4 – 9 including English Language, from a mixture of GCSEs & equivalents. Students undertaking a Level 3 ‘hybrid’ programme comprising at least one A Level element are required to meet the A Level entry criteria.

What will I study?

This course offers a vocational alternative to A-Level Media Studies and is particularly suited to students who enjoy practical and creative aspects of media productions. Over the course of two years you will produce a music video & short fictional film. Completing the course will open pathways to higher education or training and employment in creative industries sector. The course comprises of four units:

1. Media Representations

2. Pre-Production Portfolio

3. Responding to a Commission

4. Film Production (fiction)

You will develop your:

• Creativity

• Practical media skills e.g. camera operation & film editing

• Critical thinking and problem-solving skills: approaching problems by applying creative solutions and using technology

• Interpersonal skills: communicating, working collaboratively, negotiating and influencing, self-managing, adapting and showing resilience, and self-monitoring and development.

How will I study?

Offering clear skills progression from a range of GCSEs and Level Two BTECs, this course will enable you to build on the skills and knowledge you have already gained. You will become an independent learner who has the ability to research actively and methodically, give presentations, play an active role in group projects, think creatively and apply a range of creative solutions using existing facilities and technology.

How is the course examined?

The course is assessed by a mix of exams and coursework. You will also have the opportunity for vocational experience to get you ready for employment. Last year, our students worked with a range of small Leicester based companies (including a magician, a vintage clothing shop, Leicester City Council and a local media company called Kinetal) to produce short promotional videos.

Where next?

Students can progress on to higher education, or into employment.

This course if equivalent to one A Level in one year.
