I am currently an Executive Director of Responsible Business at NHS Property Services looking after our Energy, Environment and CSR programmes. My career started out in the quarrying sector in Leicestershire and we moved here shortly afterwards. My degrees are both in Engineering from Loughborough University so I have not strayed too far from the county in over 20 years. I have a keen interest in sustainability and how we can make organisations better to reduce our impacts on the environment and provide better social outcomes for all stakeholders. I am a board member of IEMA (the global professional body for sustainability professionals) and also a visiting professor at Loughborough University.
The built environment plays a vital role in society and how we learn, work and play; our connection to physical buildings is fundamental to what we can all achieve. As an organisation we are continuously improving our buildings at both campus locations which is great to see. WQE holds a wonderful position in the City; both from an institution of learning but also as a place young people can become part of as they prepare for adult life.
As my daughter started at WQE in 2022 I felt it was important to bring my experience to the board of the corporation as a Parent Governor. There has been a lot to take in and more opportunities for WQE to develop and grow as part of a vibrant and prosperous Leicester. I enjoy going for walks and volunteering with my local community group.
