Mathematics Entry Level Functional Skills Entry

Share

Entry Level Functional Skills are a pre-GCSE course designed to improve your skills so that you are able to progress onto higher level Functional Maths and GCSE Maths courses. There are three different levels within Entry Level and you will start on the right level for you. These courses are aimed at students who are also studying English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL).

Entry Qualifications

There are no formal entry requirements for Entry Level courses. Your level will be determined by your previous qualifications or after an interview and written test.

What will I study?

Your course will focus on three main topic areas: Number, Measure Shape and Space and Data Handling. There is a focus on using Maths in real-world situations where, for example, you may need to calculate costs or understand information in charts and tables

How will I study?

You will study in a class for around 5 hours every week. You will use materials from books, teacher resources and from the internet.

How is the course examined?

Each of the levels has a written exam in the classroom, there are two papers one non-calculator and one where calculators are allowed. We currently hold exams at several points throughout the year and if you pass you will be able to move on to the next level.

Where next?

When you have been successful and passed your exam, you will move on to the next level. If you pass your Entry 3 exam, you will be able to move onto a Level 1 Functional Maths course.

What does the course combine well with?

Functional skills entry students will also undertake English and ICT qualifications at the appropriate level.

College Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for Entry Level courses. Your level will be determined by an interview and written test.
