WQE student shows film at Documentary Media Centre Showcase

WQE student shows film at Documentary Media Centre Showcase!

We were delighted to welcome John Coster to WQE in March to deliver an engaging and inspiring talk to our Media students about his work in the industry.  Among other things, John is a great friend of the College, journalist, teacher, and Founder of the Leicester Documentary Media Centre which he has run for many years.

One of our students, Thomas Kraus-Weiss, was in the audience during John’s talk. Thomas is a budding filmmaker who wrote and produced a short film, consisting of an interview with an Emergency Medical Technician from East Midlands Ambulance Service, focusing on the challenges of COVID. John contacted Thomas after the session to see if they might be able to work together to get his short film out to a wider audience.

This contact resulted in Thomas’ film being screened during the new REAL Documentary Festival in April at the Phoenix Cinema.  His ‘hard-hitting and vocally strong’ piece was very well received, and John commented on Thomas’ ‘get up and go’ attitude.

We are all really proud of him and we know he has a bright future ahead of him.
