On 8th April 2024, Mike Williams, who currently works on BBC Radio 2, visited the College to speak to our English and Film students about his career in Media and Journalism.

Mike was a student here between 2003 and 2005. He studied A Levels in Film Studies, English Literature and Drama. He always had an interest in sport and worked as an intern at BBC Radio Leicester while he was still with us. He studied English Literature at Reading University and completed a post-graduate qualification in London in Broadcast Journalism. He started his career at the World Service and has worked across the BBC on both radio and television platforms. He currently is the main sports presenter on the Zoe Ball Breakfast Show on BBC Radio 2 – the most listened to Breakfast Radio show in Europe. He also works on the Today programme on BBC Radio 4 and on Saturday afternoons on Final Score on BBC1.

He has shown that with drive and tenacity, a career in the media is possible. We at the college should be very proud of his achievements. His presentation was engaging and funny. It was brilliant to hear of the success of a student with an Arts background and it hopefully his talk will inspire other students to follow in his wake.
