The Level 1 Employability programme is designed to help students develop the skills, confidence, and knowledge needed to progress successfully into further education, training, or employment. This course is ideal for learners who want to explore different career pathways while gaining practical, transferable skills valued by employers.
The programme offers a broad and engaging curriculum, combining employability skills with elements of health and social care and business studies, ensuring students are well prepared for a variety of future opportunities.
As part of the course, students will complete a mini project to support progression to Level 2 (HPQ). This project encourages independent learning and allows students to research a topic of personal interest, developing essential skills such as research, report writing, time management, and presentation skills.
Entry Qualifications
A minimum of five grade Es or 2s at GCSE, or equivalent subjects, including English Language.
What will I study?
Students will complete the following units:
- Planning for Progression
- Effective Communication
- Preparing for Work
- Interview Skills
- Developing Personal Confidence
- Keeping Safe
- Understanding Assertive Behaviour
How will I study?
Learning takes place through a variety of teaching methods e.g. teacher led sessions, role play and group work. Individual projects and assignments are produced involving the students own research and so students are expected to work on their own account.
How is the course examined?
By portfolio assignments, which is sampled by the exam board’s external verifier. Homework and class activities are assessed throughout the course. This is a credited qualification from City and Guilds completed through a number of portfolio units.
The course also includes a research project which all learners are required to participate and complete – which will support them further for level 2.
Where next?
On successful completion of the course, students can progress to a range of pathways, including:
- Level 2 courses, including GCSEs and vocational qualifications
- Apprenticeships or traineeships
- Entry-level employment with improved confidence and workplace skills
The course provides a supportive and practical stepping stone for students to move forward with confidence and achieve their future goals.
What does the course combine well with?
Students enrolling for this course as part of the ESOL Progression Support programme will also study English, Mathematics and Life Skills. To complete your study programme, you will be able to choose an Enrichment option and will take part in the Skills Development Week.
