WQE College is celebrating a continuing record of outstanding results after students achieved excellent A-level and Level 3 vocational grades this year.
Through their commitment to learning and hard-work, students achieved an exceptional 99% A-E pass rate across all subject areas, with 82% awarded ‘high grade’ passes this year, an increase of 5% on previous years.
Some of the highest grades were recorded in Further Mathematics, Modern Foreign Languages (French, German and Spanish), Fine Art, Fashion and Textiles, Photography, History, Geography, Religious Studies, Drama and Theatre Studies, Film Studies, Media Studies. In vocational Level 3 courses results were equally impressive, with 39% at distinction grade or above and overall 73% of all results were at a Merit grade or above.
Student faced exceptional circumstances during the pandemic, including the cancellation of summer examinations and enforced periods of remote working. This led to the government updating guidelines for awarding qualifications, requiring schools and colleges to determine teacher assessed grades (TAGs) based on work rigorously assessed using awarding body standards and covering a broad range of content. These included past mocks and coursework, as well assessments taken by students towards the end of each course and applying the quality assurance processes required to validate these through awarding bodies.
Paul Wilson, Principal at WQE, said: “Our students have responded impressively throughout the pandemic and we always remained confident that they were well placed to be awarded these excellent outcomes, which are deserved. We are immensely proud of how they have applied themselves over two years and rightly large number of students are celebrating once again. The staff and I congratulate them on their thoroughly deserved achievements, which will bring opportunities for progression into higher education and into professional careers.”
WQE College has a long-standing reputation for academic excellence, providing young people with qualifications that further their future prospects. On completion of their studies, most WQE Students progress onto higher education, with others pursuing apprenticeships and employment in professional careers.
