WQE Volleyball team beat Treasham College at AoC tournaments

A Picture of both the boys and the girl's volleyball teams

The Volleyball team at WQE enjoyed two fantastic wins against Treasham College last week, after facing them twice at the Association of Colleges (AoC) tournaments.

In the Mixed matches in the AoC Mixed National Cup first round, WQE won 3 – 0, in the best of five sets. While in the AoC Mixed East Midlands League, the team won 2 – 0, in the best of 3 sets.

These were the first matches for the WQE 2021 team who did fantastically well despite very little team training, and went on to beat Treasham College who are known for their volleyball academy.

All sets were very close but our students showed grit and the ability to stay calm under pressure. The next matches will take place on Wednesday 17th November when the men’s and women’s teams will play in the AoC East Midlands Regional Tournament for a place at the National Finals next April.

Jenny McLennan, Assistant Curriculum Area Leader for Sport & Social Science at WQE said “I was hugely impressed by the composure all players showed in their games – we haven’t had much training time and it was clear that they were learning through every point!”

The WQE Volleyball team is part of the college’s enrichment programmes which offer students the opportunity to participate in additional courses and activities that broaden their experience and develop their personal skills WQE. To find out more about enrichment programmes, click here.
