WQE’s netball squad had a great afternoon at the U19 County Netball tournament this week.
After a slow start to the group stages and losing to Uppingham by two goals, WQE went on to beat Loughborough Grammar, Leicester Grammar and Harrington. The team finished joint top of the group, guarantee them a place in the semi-finals.
They went on to face tough opponents – Oakham School. After digging deep and producing an outstanding performance, they narrowly missed out to a well-established side by only 1 point.
In the 3rd/4th play-off however, WQE handled Ratcliffe College well. They dominated in attack and defence, achieving a comfortable win. With a 3rd place result, the team, who have only been together since September this year, achieved a fantastic result!
The squad will face Bilborough College next, on 17th November in the AOC League, followed by the AOC Regional Tournament on the 23rd November.
Zoe Bailey, Curriculum Area Leader for Health and Sport at WQE said: “The squad have lots of potential and I am looking forward to seeing what the rest of the season will bring. They should be very proud of their results.”
