On Thursday 29th February, it was our pleasure to welcome former child refugee, leading refugee rights campaigner and author of the bestselling book ‘The Lightless Sky,’ Gulwali Passarlay back to the WQE.

Gulwali delivered a series of talks to students where he discussed his experiences of leaving Afghanistan as a 12 year old refugee and the perilous journey he took to arrive in the UK, as well as a wider discussion on the rights of refugees and integration in the country.

We were delighted too to welcome students from the BACA organisation, with whom the college works with to provide education to young refugees. The students were able to share their experiences with Gulwali and take advice and inspiration from him on making this country his home.

The day was a very successful and insightful one, from which students were able to take a lot of valuable insight from Gulwali’s powerful words.
