The WQE Men’s Football 1st team has had an exceptional season, dominating the League with only one loss and 11 wins. They finished 6 points ahead of second-place Lincoln College Academy, showcasing their superiority and consistency throughout the campaign. Ending with a remarkable 68-goal difference is an achievement that’s almost unheard of in such a competitive league. The decisive game against Lincoln, played away, ended with a stunning 11-0 victory to WQE—an unforgettable moment in what was already a memorable season. The dedication, commitment, and the friendships forged along the way have been truly outstanding.

Our students also came incredibly close to making history by securing WQE’s first win in the AOC Regionals competition. Although we narrowly missed out on first place by just one point to Loughborough College, we were the only team to have beaten them in the tournament. The AOC Regionals is an intense competition with very little room for error, and while the final stages didn’t go our way, the experience gained was invaluable. This is a stepping stone for future success, and we look forward to coming back even stronger next year.

To cap off an incredible season, the 1st team also competed in the Team Leicestershire Cup, which includes colleges and sixth forms from all over Leicestershire. The team made it all the way to the cup final, held at Seagrave (Leicester City Football Club’s Training Ground) – one of the finest football facilities in Europe. The team had the privilege of playing on the U18s match pitch against Brooke House College, an independent football college. In a nail-biting final, WQE triumphed 3-2, securing the cup alongside an unforgettable season in the league and regionals competition. This marks the first time in WQE history that a team has won both the league and the cup in the same season. This success is a testament to the students’ commitment, hard work and resilience.

A huge thank you to all the parents/carers, friends and supporters who stood by the team throughout the season and especially during the cup final. The large turnout was incredible and played a significant role in creating such a memorable atmosphere for the players. I also want to express my sincere gratitude to everyone associated with the team, whose contributions were vital to this success.

Here’s to another fantastic season, and let’s hope we can achieve even greater things next year!
