The Role of your PPM

Watch the video below to find out about the role of your Personal Progress Mentor (PPM).

Understanding your Timetable

In order to help you understand your new timetable, please read the following information.

Below is an example timetable. The academic year, your student number and your name will appear at the top. The days of the week run along the top of the timetable and the block timings down the left hand side. Blocks are usually 70 minutes long.

There is a pale grey block after each lesson block. This indicates a 10-15 minute gap, usually used for travelling between classrooms.

The teaching blocks are outlined in dark blue. The Personal Progress Mentor (PPM) group session is outlined in pale blue and the enrichment is outlined in pink. A standard Level 3 programme consists of 4 lessons per week per subject, totalling 12 lessons per week, alongside one PPM group session and one enrichment session.

Where the block is empty, this means that you do not have any timetabled lessons. These blocks are a great time for independent study in our study spaces or for visiting our on-site catering facilities. The college day runs from 9am – 4:10pm. If you have an empty block at the beginning of the day, you are not required to come onsite until your first lesson begins. Similarly, if you have an empty block at the end of the day, you are able to leave college.

Blocks 3 and 4 take place over the lunch time period (between 11:45am and 1:25pm) and are staggered. The timings of these lessons are made clear on the timetable.

If you have any issues with your timetable, please speak with your Personal Progress Mentor (PPM) or contact mis@wqe.ac.uk

IT and Email Access

All WQE students are provided with their own computer account with which to securely access the college’s IT systems.

The college avails itself of the Microsoft O365 platform, providing students with a suite of applications including email, calendar and storage. Your account details, together with instructions for using the colleges computers or connecting your own devices wirelessly, will be provided when you join the college.

Whether you are logged onto a College PC or accessing the network via Wi-Fi, there are certain expectations that you are required to understand and agree to. These expectations are explained here:

These policies can also be accessed via WQE Online should you wish to remind yourself.

If you are having issues accessing your email account or the college network, please contact ithelpdesk@wqe.ac.uk

Preferred Name/Pronouns

To ensure that all our students feel represented, we have created a form where you can inform the College of any preferred names and/or pronouns that you have. We recognise that some students are known by names different to their legal name, or the name they were given at birth. We understand that this can be an important part of exploring/illustrating identity, and demonstrating respect for each other in this way is important.

Although in certain situations we must use your legal name, preferred name can often be used for day to day purposes. Following the completion of this form, we will liaise with students to discuss this process and what we can do to support you.

Financial Support

The 16-19 Bursary Fund is a means-tested fund available to provide help with the extra costs incurred by deciding to stay in education. Once your enrolment is completed and you have received your student email account details, you will be able to apply for the bursary.
