WQE rugby team push through action-packed Newcastle game

The WQE Rugby team pushed through an action packed encounter at Newcastle last week, in their first game of the year.

A tense and physical first half, lead to the team conceding in two tries in the first few minutes of the game. With the score at 14 – 0, they bounced back with Matt scoring and Jake converting. Shortly after that, Alfie broke through and scored a try with Jake’s conversion levelling the score at 14 – 14.

Alfie’s try signalled the end of the first half and allowed some time for the team to recuperate.

During the second half, WQE conceded three consecutive tries however, they didn’t give up. Jake powered through the opposition defence, scoring a sensational try and converting it. This was followed by Dan powering over the try line and Jake’s conversion taking the score to 31 – 26.

The team wasn’t allowed a try towards the end of the game but kept going. Unfortunately, the full time whistle came too soon and resulted in a narrow defeat for WQE.

Dipesh Joshi, Captain of the WQE Rugby Team and President of the Student Executive said: “The team learned a lot from the first game. It was an all-round great game to watch and be a part of. We’re now really looking forward to the Rugby East Midlands regional tournament on Wednesday.”
